The orchards have historic varieties of apple, pear, cherry plum and plum trees together with a rich ground flora including Wild Daffodils and Lesser Celandine. New trees are being planted to replace a few that had died. Mistletoe has been introduced too. This plant, dependent on other trees used to be very common in the orchards of this area but is now very rare.
The Barnes Charitable Trust was set up in 1991 under the terms of the will of the late John Barnes, who for many years was the owner of Earnseat School.
